About the Project
The Comparison Chart is part of my Master Thesis. I used it to find the right mobile Framework for a project I was working on (VVO mobil). At first the chart was updated manually. I researched all the Documentations myself and tried to gather all information. Due to the huge amount of data and the fast development process of the frameworks themselves I needed to find another solution.
The Comparison Chart now partially still contains my manually gathered information but also data from the framework publishers themselves. This way the Comparison Chart always stays correct and up to date. See how it works.
Thanks again to anyone who supported me in creating this Comparison Chart!!! I hope it will be of service to the mobile developer communitiy.
How to use it
Blog
[Mar 2011]: Thank you for you continued interest in the Chart and for all the positive feedback. Right now the Chart is feature proof and I'm still trying to get the remaining frameworks dynamic. A few people asked for an csv export or something similar. Right now there is no such thing. Also people ask me to make this open source so that they can add features to it. For now I think it is still most important to work on the data. So if you like to support the Chart please contact the remaining framework developers and ask for their support in the project.
[Update Oct 2011]: I have just added a new attribute for visual editing in the development languages section (As always fallback for empty or missing attributes is "false". Your done if you do not have a visual editor).
[Oct 2011]: A new version of the Mobile Frameworks Comparison Chart is online. I have added more frameworks and also more attributes for each framework. Furthermore, I have created a few sites that explain what this project is about and how it works. Also, there is a phenomenal new and never seen before social bookmark integration below the table so that you can share this project even more easily than ever before. [Update]: I had to change the attribute "advertisement" to "ads" due to AdBlock. If you have any trouble with how the table is shown disabling AdBlock might help.
[Oct 2011]: Thank you for all your positive feedback so far and special thanks to all framework publishers that have supported me in creating this chart. After having finished my Master Thesis on this subject and after a short holiday I will now continue to work on the chart. First priority will be to continue adding more frameworks. Also, the frameworks will get more features they can support such as more development languages.
[Aug 2011]: At the moment I am finishing my master thesis (the origin of this comparison chart) which keeps me very busy. Until this is finished I will try to collect as many frameworks as possible to provide an eligible amount of data to choose from. After that I will provide a chart that contains more attributes for each framework and more solid scripting which will deal with frameworks that might not get updated as the chart changes. I think I can land this by the end of October. After all functionality is working well I plan to give the chart a more usable interface.
Changelog
- [Mar 2012]: ChocolateChip-UI added.
- [Nov 2011]: More Frameworks added.
- [Oct 2011]: New category: "Other". New attributes: "encryption", "SDK" and "Advertisement" (Other), "C++" (development languages), "Java ME" (platform), "Visual Editor" (development languages). Also the whole data integration process has been rewritten. See "Participate" for more information (If you don't need any of the new attributes, you are all done).
Roadmap
A few features I plan to add:
- Table sorting.
- Add another dimension to the Comparison Chart that only contains plattforms. This way frameworks can support a certain feature for one plattform while not supporting it for another.
- Perofrmance.
